Spring exchange

Spring is finally officially here!!!

So it's time to share with you a little private exchange that took place between myself and
Justine, from Justine's Cross Stitch

The theme was Spring

It was so hard to decide on what to stitch, how to finish my piece
and what to include in my little package...
This was promising to be a very exciting swap :)

What comes to mind when you mention Spring?!
For me it's definitely Sheep & Daffodils...

So, I've opted to stitch
"Moutons de Saisons: Printemps"
from Corinne Rigaudeau at Tralala

Apologies for awful pictures, if I'm not shaking, they appear to be blurry...
Stitched on 14ct aida fabric, light rustico style
Using all recommended DMC cottons as I did not have any Atalie's.

I tried to be adventurous with the finishing!
I thought it was a long time since I'd played with a zip...
So, I'd dusted off the sewing machine, refreshed my memory with a few zip tutorials and went for it!

Finished off as a small flat zip case
using Tilda fabrics (both lining & outer), button & trim from my stash

The front...

 The back...

A little detail and sneek peek to the polka pink lining...

Sadly it's not perfect despite trying my best.
The corners at the top where the zip is could be better but
I LOVE it still and hope Justine will treasure it & find it handy too :)

Best way to celebrate Spring is with flowers, don't you think?!
A colourful bunch of daffodils

So I've stitched
"Hedgehog" from Margaret Sherry
A freebie kit available with issue 225 of TWOCS

Stitched on light green aida fabric
Using the provided threads

We all know back stitch on MS's designs can be quite tricky but
this one wasn't too bad and really finished off the design beautifully

Finished off as a small pinkeep, complete with little wooden easel
using Tilda fabric for the back, trim & pins from my stash

My exchange was also including a Daffodil goodie bag bursting with:

A Soda Stitch chart (Spring themed, of course)
A piece of hand dyed 28ct evenweave fabric called Spring from Polstitches
Weeks Dye Works hand over dyed floss called Spring
Seasonal ribbons
A piece of printed flower fabric
Washi tape
Seasonal chocolates (Yum)
Easter bobbing hen decoration (which I nearly kept, it was so cute!!)
Yankee Candle tart wax

Of course, I forgot to take pictures of all these, d'oh!!!
So hop along to Justine's to have a peek :)

Wow! This was my reaction when I'd opened my parcel with all my goodies :)
As always, Justine has been over generous with her gifts.
It was packed with beautifully wrapped items in colourful tissue paper!

Justine has made a sweet biscornu,
perfect for Spring!
A sweet Barbara Ana design,
stitched on a beautiful piece of fabric which has a kind of marble effect.

Next, Justine made the cutest miniature scissor pouch and needle minder!!
So cute and perfectly made up :)
I love the colours!

A close up...

I am absolutely delighted with my handmade gifts :)

As it wasn't enough, Justine packed more goodies!
Beautiful floss (I've already used Daffodil), cross stitch fabric, fabric fat quarters, ribbons, buttons,
key ring, paperclips, notebook, pen,
Charts (If I'm not mistaken, we've both sent each other the same Soda Stitch chart!!)
Sweeties (and a lot of them! A pack of Haribo was actually gone by the time I got round to take these pictures :P)
and a little tulip needle minder!!!
I love this, I always wanted a needle minder but never got the opportunity to get one

And there was more! A little gift for my son :)
He soon spotted it & was delighted to find it was Lego minifigure to add to his collection
He also ate the little chocolate rabbit!

Thank you so much Justine!
As always, your stitchery is beautiful and I love all my gifts.

It was fun taking part in this exchange and gifts made & received are simply beautiful

Looking forward to our Halloween exchange next!

We're having a Solar Eclipse here in the UK this morning.
Hope my British readers are all ready,
the sun is shining so it should be lovely.
Not long to go now!
Don't forget to protect your eyes with special glasses!!

Brownbird Sampler - Bent Creek

Never been too fond of samplers in the past,
but as mentioned in one of my older posts,
they are starting to grow on me!

So I have finally got round to stitching one!

This is Brownbird Sampler from Bent Creek

Stitched on 14ct aida fabric, light rustico colour.

I have used all the recommended WDW & GA overdyed floss
- Yes, I have exceptionally ditched my favourite DMC cotton! -

It was really fun to work on and
I also had the opportunity to learn a few specialty stitches:

The Chevron stitch

The Rice stitch

The Long Armed Cross stitch

and the Open Herringbone stitch

My favourite was the rice stitch, doesn't it look lovely?

No proper "finish" this time,
I believe Samplers owe to be framed.
Well, this one anyway...

So it's going to go in my
"awaiting-for-a-decent-frame" pile
until I find something suitable... one day.
